Berkeley’s Unemployment Rate Lowest Since May

Preliminary data released by the state Employment Development Department Friday, Dec. 18, show that Berkeley’s unemployment rate is the lowest since May. 

In November, Berkeley’s unemployment rate decreased to 10.7 percent from 11 percent in October. It stands lower than it has been for every month since May, when the unemployment rate was 10.3 percent. 

Berkeley entered the double digit unemployment denomination in March 2009—10.1 percent—for the first time this decade. 

Oakland’s unemployment rate is 17 percent while Richmond stands at 18 percent. The average for Alameda County is 11 percent.
